What Is the Absolute Minimum Value the Dhcp Lease Duration Can Be Set to?

Hullo,

Thanks for posting in Q&A platform.

Lease fourth dimension is set to 1 day but sometimes client was given charter for only 1 hour.

Please kindly cheque the respond as beneath:

Based on your description, I empathise that the failover relationship was establish on your DHCP servers. DHCP failover has a characteristic called MCLT. Below is the definition of MCLT from Microsoft official documents.

Maximum client pb time (MCLT)

The maximum amount of time that ane server can extend a charter for a DHCP client beyond the time known by the partner server. The MCLT defines the temporary charter flow given past a failover partner server, and as well determines the amount of time that a server in a failover relationship will expect in partner downwardly state earlier bold control over the entire IP address range.

The MCLT cannot be set to zip, and thedefault setting is 1 60 minutes.

Then, if the failover relationship was found, the DHCP server will charter IP accost to customer with a MCLT duration firstly.

Kindly check the following details regarding of the MCLT step:

37446-image-1.gif

  1. A DHCP client in the INIT land broadcasts a DHCP find bulletin.

  2. Since DHCP2 is in standby status, it does not respond to the client. DHCP1 is in agile condition and responds by offer a lease to the customer.

  3. The client requests a lease from DHCP1.

  4. DHCP1 provides an IP accost lease to the customer for the MCLT (not the full telescopic lease duration).

  5. DHCP1 sends a bounden update (BNDUPD) bulletin to DHCP2 letting it know about the new charter.

  6. DHCP2 responds to DHCP1 and acknowledges that it received the binding update (BNDACK).

  7. At 50% of the lease time (MCLT/2), the client requests a renewal for its charter from DHCP1.

  8. DHCP1 renews the client'southward DHCP lease for the total scope lease duration.

  9. DHCP1 sends a binding update (BNDUPD) message to DHCP2 informing it of the lease renewal.

  10. DHCP2 acknowledges that information technology received the bounden update bulletin from DHCP1 (BNDACK).

  11. DHCP1 becomes unavailable.

  12. DHCP2 receives an mistake when attempting to communicate with DHCP1 or a timer expires because no letters have been received from DHCP1. DHCP2 drops the connection, enters the advice interrupted country, and switches to an active status.

  13. DHCP2 attempts and fails to reestablish a connection with DHCP1.

  14. At 50% of the scope lease time, the client requests a renewal for its charter from DHCP1, just DHCP1 is not available so the lease it not renewed.

  15. At 7/8 of the scope lease time, the client moves into a REBINDING country and broadcasts a charter renewal request.

  16. DHCP2 receives the lease request from the client and responds with a DHCPACK. The client renews its lease using the aforementioned IP address as previously assigned for the duration of the MCLT.

  17. DHCP1 becomes available again and attempts to reestablish communications with DHCP2. DHCP1 waits a short fourth dimension to ensure communications with DHCP2 are fully reestablished, then enters a normal state and becomes the active DHCP server over again. DHCP1 begins communications past sending and update request (UPDREQ) to DHCP2.

  18. DHCP2 sends binding update (BNDUPD) messages and DHCP1 sends bounden acknowledgment (BNDACK) messages until the lease database is fully synchronized (not shown), so DHCP2 and so sends an UPDDONE message. DHCP2 is assigned standby condition.

  19. At 50% of the charter time (MCLT/two), the customer attempts to renew its lease with DHCP2, simply DHCP does not respond considering it is in standby status.

  20. At seven/8 of lease expiration the client enters a REBINDING state and broadcasts a DHCPREQUEST message.

  21. DHCP2 does not respond because information technology is in standby status. DHCP1 responds with a DHCPACK and the client renews its lease with DHCP1 for the full scope lease time. This is the same every bit pace #viii above and the procedure repeats.

Promise my answer will aid you!

Sunny
